One of the best family days out in the West Midlands is a day at Hatton Country World. We always have a brilliant time and it is so big there is always a different thing to do each time we visit. There are also always new things to do. This time, we were really excited to take part in Hatton’s great Summer adventure – Water wars! What a great idea for Summer. We couldn’t wait to get started.
We always head straight for the farm yard at Hatton. This year it has had a big update with lots of new animals. The girls loved the friendly ponies and there enjoyed watching the cheeky goats. No, of course, they weren’t kissing they were arguing over something they had snatched off one of the visitors. Rose was delighted there were so many piglets as pigs are her favourite animal.
They love the guinea pig area. There are times when you can hold the guinea pigs. They are so gentle and calm that the girls didn’t want to leave. I can tell we are now going to spend the rest of the holidays arguing over whether the girls can have a pet guinea pig.
The outside area is also improved. There were a lot more animals, including wallabies. They all looked really happy in their new surroundings and the girls loved being able to feed them.
After the walk, we were really hot. It was a cloudy day but really warm and the girls couldn’t wait to cool down. You definitely need to bring a change of clothes if you are planning to take part in water wars as you did get really wet.
It is a water gun version of the Hunger Games and really fun to watch. There is a cornucopia where you have to run to pick up your weapons. This would be easy except you get fired on by the other children who have already picked up their water guns.
The aim is to hide behind the hay bales so you don’t get shot at. The girls didn’t seem to get this and ended up completely soaked.
The second part of water wars is a really fun team game where you fire water balloons with a special cannon. The girls loved this, especially using the water cannon. I think it’s safe to say their team was thoroughly beaten.
As the girls were already soaked we went straight to the gold mine area. This is always a favourite activity as you can pan for gold and win a medal. The girls always end up soaked in water as they get a bit excited. This time, I was happy for them to get wet as I had a change of clothes.
The girls were so excited to get the gold and to win their medals. It was a highlight of the day.
I like the fact there are so many different activities at Hatton. There is always something to do. You can stay inside if the weather is bad and watch a show or go in the soft play area, older children can do the assault course or the new laser quest. There are bird displays and sheep racing. After a quick change of clothes, we headed to the rides. The girls love the tea cups and the bouncy slide but particularly enjoyed the new bouncy castles.
They also tried out a couple of new things. Rose learnt to swing on her own and Charlotte went for the first time on the large slide. It was lovely seeing how close a family day brings them.
We finished our day with a quick trip to the soft play area and a final cuddle with the guinea pigs. They really want a pet now. After all that excitement, the girls were thoroughly plum tuckered out.
What a brilliant way to start the Summer holidays. Hatton Country World’s Great Summer Adventure is on until the 4rd September
