For the last month or so I have been making easter egg bean bags with Molly. I thought this was a good project for her with easter coming up as it was something we could make for gifts for her sisters. It makes a good alternative to chocolate. We bought lots of pastel coloured felt so they would be in pretty easter colours.

This is such a simple sewing project. We just drew a simple egg shape template. Cut out two pieces of felt. Then sewed around using a simple running stitch, leaving a small gap at the top. To start with we turned the eggs inside out but it actually didn’t look as good doing that. Instead we just made the stitches as neat as possible. We filled the bean bags with lentils and then sewed up the hole. These were Molly’s bean bags. She was so proud of them.

After we had made a few bean bags I cut out some numbers out of white felt and sewed them onto the front. They can then use the bean bags for some counting games. I am going to make a rabbit shape that they can toss them through to practice number recognition.

We have put the finished bean bag eggs into some Easter baskets. They look really pretty and will be a lovely surprise for the twins.

Although they are shaped like easter eggs, I think you could use them throughout the year. The bean bags are a lovely shape for balancing on your head. I think we will do some bean bag races on Easter Sunday and see who can carry them on their head the furthest. We could have an alternative egg and spoon race too.
