Last year we were sent this beautiful Advent Calendar craft kit from Buttonbag. Molly was aged 9 at the time and it was a lovely project for her to complete on cold Winter evenings. She took so much pride in it, unfortunately, this meant we were a little late for the start of advent and it wasn’t finished until a few days into advent. I decided to delay publishing my review until now as no one will be buying advent calendars after Christmas. This is such a brilliant project though, I would definitely recommend getting one.
The project comes in a cute little suitcase box. This is brilliant because you can keep all your materials stored away safely while you are completing it. It is also a lovely sized box to use for your sewing materials afterwards, as I’m sure this project will really start off a passion for sewing.
In the box, there is everything you will need to make a stunning advent calendar. It includes simple to follow instructions, scissors, cotton panel, 24 pre-cut pockets, 4 colours sticky felt, embroidery threads, needle kit, instructions and templates. We couldn’t wait to get started.
The pattern is really very simple to follow and requires no hemming. All you need to do is sew on the little pockets. The pockets are made of felt which is really easy for small hands to sew as it doesn’t fray and is also quite chunky.
What I love most about this craft set is how much you can personalise it. Some craft sets we have tried before have actually involved very little creativity. With this one, you choose the colour pattern of the pockets and also the decoration. You can use any shapes you want.
Molly decided to make her advent calendar for her Daddy. I think this is such a special way to get children to think of others as they have to decide what to put in it and also spend time making it. It teaches them the true meaning of Christmas.
This was the first sewing project Molly had completed on her own. The stitches are bit wobbly but have a whole charm of their own. The numbers are simply stuck on at the end, which makes it a bit quicker to finish.
The finished advent calendar is so lovely and colourful. It is something which we will treasure for many years to come and was a lovely surprise for Molly’s daddy. She filled it with all the things he likes, dark chocolate, chewing gum and guitar plectrums! This advent calendar kit costs £21.99 which is a great price for all the materials you get. It would be a lovely idea for an adult, teenager or older child.
