Alice the Fairy

Alice, the little girl in David Shannon’s charming picture book Alice The Fairy, will seem very familiar to anyone with little ones. It’s such a great book, capturing that twilight world young children live in where they half believe their made up worlds are real.

The twins loved the book. They are nearly three and it reminded me a lot of the things they do.

fairy crown

To bring the book to life we made some crowns, like Alice does in the story. This is the simplest craft imaginable. We used a cereal box and cut it into a long strip with zig zags at the top. Then I used some metallic tape to make it sparkly and the twins stuck on some stars.

We are doing a lot of work at the moment on recognising their names – so everything has their name on it. A crown is great as you can stick one letter to each of the points. I stapled the crown together for them.

We also made fairy wands using the rest of the card from the cereal box. I cut out two stars for each child using a cookie cutter for a template and the girls painted and decorated it with paint and stars. We stuck the two pieces together on top of a lolly stick and  left it to dry. Then we tied some ribbon onto the stick and added some stickers to say their names.

magic fairy bath

At bedtime the girls were very keen to have a jelly bath. I put a couple of packets of jelly granules into bowls so the girls could mix them in using their magic wands. The wands were glow stick wands I had left over from Halloween. The twins loved pouring the jelly granules into the bath and it did have a magic effect. It also turned the bath a lovely pink colour and smelled gorgeous. They enjoyed playing with the fairies and making them magic potions.

I made the girls a couple of extra pages for the book with pictures of them on it so they look like fairies. I edited the photos in Picmonkey to make them seem more magical – I may have gone over the tip with Bokeh stars and radiance

I put their name at the top saying “Charlotte the fairy

The good thing about having magic wands is you can wave them and the children are magically ready for bed and asleep in minutes. I wish!
