Best Adventure Sports To Enjoy In And Around Las Vegas

August 3, 2021

  • Las Vegas has always been a staple for the global population seeking some exclusive vacation experiences.
  • There has been a significant shift in travelers’ interest from glitzy vacations to adventure sports in the region.

Las Vegas is expected to recede back to its old charm as the vacation destinations are opening up. But, experts believe that there can be a possible shift from glammed-up vacations to adventure sports this season.

Here are some of the best outdoor adventures you can enjoy in and around Las Vegas this year.

Skyjumping from the Stratosphere Tower

Stratosphere Tower is the tallest structure of its kind in the western USA, soaring 350 m high.

It is pretty popular with sky jumpers as it offers a budget-friendly adrenaline rush to adventure seekers.

Ride up the elevator to the top of the tower, put on the jumpsuit, and with a quick crash course, you’re all set to jump off the building.

You can experience your heart pounding and blood gushing through your veins, free-falling over 100 storeys down to the ground.

The sport can be enjoyed throughout the year if the weather permits.

Hiking in the Valley of Fire

Open year-round, the Valley of Fire offers some of the best desert scenery in all of America.

Get the feel of true western lifestyle, as depicted in the Hollywood movies, while hiking through the valley.

Not the mention, the cliffs of bizarre rock formations are inscribed with ancient Native American petroglyphs.

The valley is situated at an hour’s drive from Hollywood city to the southwest.

Kayaking in Colorado River

The Colorado River, carving its way through the Grand Canyon, is increasingly becoming popular as a Kayaking destination.

About 40 minutes from the strip, Hoover Dam is the starting point for kayaking through the canyon.

Paddling down the canyon allows you to explore the ridges from an all-new perspective.

You can either rent a Kayak or book with a local paddler.

Racing Dune Buggies in the Desert

Nevada’s vast stretches of American desert are indeed the most popular attractions to Hollywood city. Of course, after the glammed-up charm of Casinos and nightlife.

Nonetheless, if you wish to take your time off from the city’s gloomy ambiance, racing in a dune buggy across the desert might just be the kind of adventure you need.

There are easy and affordable Off road rentals near las vegas that can let you enjoy dune racing in Moapa valley and around.

It could precisely be the kind of adventure you need to take your mind off of all the shimmery lifestyle.

Helicopter ride to the Grand Canyon

While kayaking can let you explore the grand canyon from down below, a helicopter ride can let you enjoy the view from up top.

The Grand Canyon has been recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, which is also why there are so many adventure activities around it.

Get a comprehensive, stretched view of the winding crevices of the canyon riding with some of the most experienced pilots. You can even ride through the canyon if you ask your pilot for it.

Some helicopter companies also offer dramatic take-offs and landings to attract customers.

Golf at Angel Park

If you’re one of those who enjoy calming sports, then golf might just be your thing.

To your surprise, Vegas has plenty of award-winning golf courses in the region. And they are open throughout the year.

Angel Park is loved by the locals for its extensive 36 holes course designed by Golf pro legend Arnold Palmer. The course offers inspiring vistas of both – the Las Vegas Valley and the Red Rock Canyon desert.

You can also choose the fast-playing Cloud Nine course for the night play if you visit during summers.

Cycling Trail around Red Rock Canyon

Just about 30 minutes drive to the west of the city lies Red Rock Canyon.

The region is known for its natural reserves of technicolor sandstone bluffs and seasonal waterfall oases. Desert hiking trails on a bicycle can offer some of the prime wildlife watching areas in the region.

The 13-mile scenic drive is easily affordable if you wish to rent a bike. Or, if you own one yourself, you can take a one-way shuttle service to take you up the cliffs and canyon top.

From there, you can ride down the speeding trails gushing through the wind, passing some of the deepest cliffs in the canyon.

Zip-Lining in Bootleg Canyon

Downtown Las Vegas features a short zip-line, but for better thrills, you should head out of the town.

The great outdoors near Boulder City features the longest zip-line, measuring half a mile, near the desert terrain of Bootleg Canyon.

Take a pick-up truck ride to the mountain, followed by a short hike, you will reach the starting point. Strap yourself in a paragliding harness, and take off to a series of zip lines.

The best part is, you can zip at speeds of up to 50mph down the hill.

The flight lines are open daily from 7 am to 6 pm, depending upon the weather conditions.

Skiing near Mount Charleston

You might be wondering where you can ski in the desert. Well, to your surprise, mountains around Vegas receive a lot of snowfall every winter.

So, if you’re visiting around the cold months, you can enjoy skiing and snowboarding near Mount Charleston.

The sport is suitable for travelers with all skill levels, from beginners to professionals of all ages.

Cruising on Lake Mead

Although it is an artificial lake created by Hoover Dam in the 1930s, it has emerged as a popular cruising destination in the state.

It’s like cruising through an oasis in the middle of the desert.

You can also enjoy swimming and boating in the lake. Although it is predicted to dry up in the next decade and has already reached 50% of its initial water level.

The trips are affordable and convenient for all adults, kids, and families. With small paddle-powered boats, you can enjoy a boating session for hours all year round.

So, what are you waiting for? Pack your bags and get ready to enjoy some adventure time in Hollywood city.
