Jamie’s Italian Restaurant in Birmingham

January 29, 2017

I’ve wanted to try Jamie’s Italian in Birmingham for ages. I loved the chef’s TV series on Italian food, it always looked so fresh and delicious. It was the perfect venue for a birthday dinner. I was planning to get a babysitter but as it was a week night we decided to go as a family. This was definitely the right thing to do as we all got such a warm welcome. It was a wonderful place to have a relaxed family dinner.

The restaurant is in the Bullring and so really easy to get to. IWe had a window seat with a great view of the modern Selfridges building with the older building of St Martin’s in the Bullring juxtaposed next to it. Inside was a relaxed but elegant restaurant with plenty of space to relax.

The children were provided with lots of things to do. The activity pack was one of the best we have been given at a restaurant. There was colouring and a quiz as well as a card so you could make fortune tellers to help you pick what to eat.

The children’s menu had lots of choice. It served familiar meals with a distinctive twist. It was a great way to expand children’s taste buds without scaring them completely. All children’s meals came with a fun pot of salad you had to shake. They found this lots of fun and ate more salad than they normally would. Rose and Molly ordered chicken lolliops, which were chargrilled with lemon. Charlotte ordered the special, which was a really tasty pizza. I’m not usually a fan of pizza but this was so delicious. She loved the fact it was bigger than her head! The puddings were really indulgent. The girls had gooey chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream, crunchy toffee popcorn and chocolate sauce.

I ordered British crab spaghetti served with chilli, fennel, capers, white wine & garlic, topped with lemon zest and extra virgin olive oil. It was fresh and delicious with just the right amount of spice from the chillis.

For dessert, I ordered a tiramisu pavalova. This was a sumptuous confection of coffee-rippled meringue topped with dark chocolate ice cream, smashed hazelnuts & hot chocolate sauce. When we arrived Charlotte told the waiters it was my birthday and they all came out to sing me Happy birthday. Charlotte was more embarrassed than me. My pavlova also had Happy Birthday written in toffee sauce. It was a really lovely touch and definitely made my birthday feel very special.

We had a lovely time at Jamie’s Italian. It was the perfect place to go for a special occasion. Also although the meal felt very indulgent and a real treat it was light and we didn’t feel stuffed. It was a lovely place to take children as they were welcomed with open arms, yet the adult menu still felt grown up. It is definitely somewhere I would go again next time we are in Birmingham.
