The highs and lows of 2011

January 20, 2012

I have a problem with writing this meme. I have a really weird memory. I can remember all the words to a song I haven’t heard for 20 years but if you ask me what I did this morning I would struggle. It’s a bit like I’m 84 not 34 (I also had to pause for a moment to work out how old I am). So to remember actual things I did last year is pretty tricky. But I suppose if you don’t use it you lose it, so thanks to Jenny at Mummy Mishaps for giving my mind a bit of a work out.

1. Happiest event from 2011

The twins turning one. It really was the start of things getting a bit easier. You probably heard my cry of delight as I tossed the baby bottles into the sea. I really have no idea how we got through that first year, but we did.

Bye bye bottles!

2. What was the saddest thing to happen?

The riots.

3. What was the most unlikely thing to happen that actually went ahead and did happen?

There was one day in the middle of October when I left the house without having to shout commands at anyone, when we had the correct allocation of shoes, socks, bats and scarves. We returned home with the same amount of shoes, socks hats and scarves. When there was the right books and notes in the book bag. I didn’t misplace anything or break anything or forget anyone’s name or my phone. I was on time for both drop off and pick up at school. I remembered a change of clothes, enough nappies and wipes and emergency snacks for the twins when we popped out. I know I was surprised too. Don’t think it’ll happen again.

4. Who let you down?

Insurance companies who don’t work on a Saturday, ballet teachers, government workers who decided I should pay back my maternity pay even though the cost of child are is so prohibitive I have been unable to go back to work, supermarkets with not enough twin trollies, people who park in the parent and toddler bays who don’t have toddlers, and finally that cow night-time-me who eats all the biscuits and stays up really late leaving day-time-me tired and fat. They drive me mad, especially the last one.

5. Who supported you?

My husband. Plus all the family and friends and random strangers who held a baby or fed a baby or stopped a baby from eating stones.

6. Tell us one thing you learned.

Get a spare key cut. Get another. Leave spare key somewhere you can find it if you lose your key.

7. Tell us one thing which made you laugh.

The twins giving each other a kiss.

8. Tell us one thing which made you cry.

The end of Toy Story 3.

9. Tell us three things your children did which made you proud.

Molly learning to read and to swim without armbands.

Charlotte singing ba ba into a microphone at toddler singing.

Rose learning to walk, she took a bit longer than her sister which made it all the more exciting.

10. Tell us one thing which makes you proud of yourself

Running ten miles for the great south run after having about 5 hours sleep as Molly was sick in the night.

11. Tell us one challenge you overcame
The worst month ever when the twins had chicken pox, and hubby had a bike accident. Ok it was worse for them but I was there too.

12. Tell us three things you would like to change about your life in 2012.

Be more organised, go to bed an hour earlier every night, talk to adults.
