August 29, 2014

If you are looking for a new location for a fun city break with kids then why not consider Munich. Flying to the third largest city in Germany might not seem the first choice for a family holiday but it is a great location for old and young travellers alike. Munich will provide an unforgettable holiday for you and your family.

Here are the Top 5 things to do in Munich with children:

Glockenspiel at Marienplatz

The thing I always think of when I picture Munich is the Glockenspiel. Every day the Glockenspiel chimes twice in the Central Square. The best thing is that thirty two life sized figures act out historical events from Bavaria’s past. The Marienplatz is a stunning building and fascinating for adults too.

Toy Museum

Another treat not to be missed is Munich’s Toy Museum. Set in Old Town this is one of the city’s top attractions. Amazingly these are mainly taken from the collection of the Czech writer Ivan Steiger. There are toys from all over the world and even a collection of toys made from bread.

Tierpark Hellabrun

Tierpark Hellabrun is Munich’s Zoo. This is a huge series of buildings which will keep you entertained all day as there is so much to see and do. There are polar bears, giraffes and elephants as well as the large collection of primates.

Munich Botanical Garden

A fascinating place to visit with older children, The Botanical Gardens is really beautiful and great for a tranquil afternoon out. The Botanical gardens are full of brightly coloured flower arrangements. It would be perfect inspiration for planning your own garden.

Nymphemburg Palace

The Nymphemburg palace is really unmissable.  Translated as “Castle of the Nymph“, this is a Baroque palace in MunichBavaria, southern Germany.  The Palace includes the Nymphenburg Porcelain Factory, stunning gardens, and public rooms, the Great Hall is particularly stunning.

There are so many things to see and do in Munich. It is a unique destination which will leave you enchanted. The best thing is you only need to take a short flight to Germany and can be at your destination really quickly.
